Glory Christian Centre’s Children’s Christmas Party Sees Over 2,000 Kids
KOTA KINABALU: In the days approaching Christmas, the church of Glory Christian Centre (GCC) felt the rise in excitement as they prepared for the annual Children’s Christmas Party which aimed to gather the children of the city to celebrate Christmas together.
The result was the filling of the house with more than 2,000 children and 1,000 adults who were shown to remember “When Love Was Born”, the theme of this church’s 2011 Christmas.
“Other than presents, decorations and food, the ultimate purpose was to highlight the real reason for the season, the birth of Jesus Christ as an advent to his ultimately guiding the world into salvation,” a church spokesperson said.
The children’s party, “Super Space Christmas” was presented by children and youth though singing, choir, dance, puppetry and drama. Characters appeared in all shapes and sizes such as the space birds, a fish, hamster and puppy, clowns, and the cast of the Space marines, a group of fictional superheroes resisting the charms of Dr. Disgusto, a villain and finally winning him over as their ally.
The party was a part of GCC’s series of events celebrating Chrismas 201, kicking off with the Senior Citizens’ Party on Dec 10 attended by 200. This was followed by Christmas Sharity organized by its Community Care group. More than a 1,000 gifts and goody bags were distributed to the needy in charitable homes and hospitals around the city as well as to villagers in Pitas, Kudat, Tambunan, Pensiangan, etc.
More than 3,000 people packed the GCC auditorium on Christmas eve for a sermon, drama and skits reflecting the ‘love’ theme. The congregation also heard a touching testimony by a member about how love sustained her through her ordeal of losing her husband while still pregnant with their first child.
Meanwhile, GCC will be celebrating its 18th Anniversary on Jan 8. The celebration service starts at 9am and the public is invited.
