Growing up in church

Good Morning Church. I am Sharon Barry from Cell Group EK1 and also actively serving in The Glory Kids Church & Discovery Club. I have been attending church since I was 6 years old. It was in 1996 and GCC was held in Asia City. Back then, I didn’t understand what ‘church’ meant. All I knew was I felt I am at home, enjoying myself and wanted to be in church.
To me, I felt I was not brought up properly during my growing years. I love my parents and I knew my parents had done their best for me. Due to circumstances that were beyond my understanding, situation at home was not peaceful most of the time. This was because of the nature of my father’s work, he was rarely at home and my mum brought me up all by herself. There were times I would feel lonely, helpless and lost. Often I would get into arguments with my siblings. It was at times such as this that I found a home in the Glory Kids. I am blessed and thankful that Glory Kids and Discovery Club were places that I could call ‘home’.
In Glory Kids, Aunty Margaret taught me, no matter where I came from or what situation I may be facing, God still loves me. As a volunteer staff in the Glory Kids, I am taught to be discipline in being on time, setting an example to the children and learning how to be a leader.
I joined Discovery Club when I was 13 years old. As a teenager, I learned to stand strong and to hold on to God despite all odds. When I was 16 years old, I was given the responsibility to be a group leader. Here I learned not only to show love and care to the younger ones but also to be tactful and be prepared for whatever will take place.
There were difficult and challenging times throughout my growing and serving time in GK & DC. There were times my leaders need to disciplined me and when I choose to be submissive and obeyed, I found out it make me a better person.
Today, I can proudly say that I am who I am today because of GCC. I am currently still serving in the Glory Kids as one of their staff, a key leader in Discovery Club and actively attending a vibrant young adult cell group. I am also working as a full-time staff in our GCC Office.
My life would not have turn around if I did not choose to stay and grow in GCC. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the leaders, mentors and friends who have been there for me with their time and patience during my growing up as a child and a teenager. To Ps. William, thank you for being the father of the House. It is because of who you are, I can proudly say that I know why I am doing what I am doing today.
I look forward as I do my part of raising the standard in all the ministries I am involved in. I will do my best together with my family here in GCC, to excel in all areas of church life and ministry. All these are for His glory, striving towards our vision to impact our City.
